Hi rkammer,
First, welcome to the forum.
To answer your question; after buying the 2531.80, I had to purchase a bracelet and then I had the watch serviced, then the ding on the bezel started to really annoy me so I got a new one and had it fitted. After doing all this, I realised that I really preferred the 2254.50.
To be able to get a 2254, I would have had to sell the 2531 but when I looked into what I would get for it, it meant I would be taking a loss that I was not happy with. Along the way, I saw Fr John's converted 2254 with the non-AC dial and decided that's the way I would go if I ever got a 2254.
Late last year I started looking into the parts required to convert the 2531 and if it was a simple case of swapping parts over which it was. I ordered the parts from Cousins UK, as I had earned a 15% online discount with then due to previous purchases. Sadly, this reverted back to 2.5% midway through January this year.
The total cost for the parts and to have the work done was £343.10 which equates to about a 1/4 of the price of a five year old mint 2254 and I would still have bought a 2230.50.00 dial and had it fitted.
As it is now, I have the watch I want and still have the parts to convert back to a 2531. Also, if I want to wear a 2230.50.00, I only have to purchase and have fitted a WG bezel. Then there is always the option of having an "Electric Blue" by buying a bezel and dial.
Below is how I have the watch at present, on the Omega black rubber deployment strap OME-98000037:
