2531.80 Back From Modification Empty
PostSubject: 2531.80 Back From Modification   2531.80 Back From Modification EmptyFri Feb 25, 2011 6:11 pm

I received my 2531.80.00 back this morning from Steve at Ryte Time. It has gone through a few changes since I purchased it in April of last year.

It looked like this when I first received it: (note the ding on the bezel at 55-56 mins)

The first thing I did was purchase a "Bond" 1503.825 bracelet:

I then had it serviced and later had a new bezel fitted.

I really preferred the 2254.50.00 but did not have the funds to buy another watch, so I had Steve fit the following parts for me:

  • Omega 064WZ3121001 Black Dial (SMP 2230.50.00)
  • Omega 065PZ4136 Hour & Minute Hands (SMP 2230.50.00)
  • Omega 066PZ4094 Seconds Hand (SMP 2230.50.00)
  • ETA 2802 2557.1 Date Ring 3 o'clock White Figures on Black Background
  • Omega 082SU1464 Black Bezel (SMP 2254.60.00)

And now my 2531.80.00 looks like this:

I did ask Steve to supply and fit a PO 42mm seconds hand, but delivery of the hand was adding to the length of time my watch had been away, (24th of November) So I just went with the (SMP 2230.50.00) seconds hand.

Now all I have to do is wait on the 20mm rubber strap (OME-98000037) to arrive from the East Coast FD.

To be honest my first thought was ..... "Why?!?!?!?" but then I saw the end result & I realised you've actually got your very own "ultimate watch".

Brian I'm impressed mate.......

So, tell us Brian. After it was all said and done, did you actually save money by building your own 2254.50 or, would it have been cheaper to just find a mint 2254.50? I'm not asking you to reveal prices, by the way. Just curious, mate.

Can't much argue with that End result, but the 'Bond' version will always be the one for me...

It was my first 'Real' Watch and despite the DayDates, Ceramic bezel models, Daytonas, etc, etc...it is still my favorite...

PostSubject: Re: 2531.80 Back From Modification   2531.80 Back From Modification EmptySun Feb 27, 2011 2:35 am

Hi rkammer,

First, welcome to the forum.

To answer your question; after buying the 2531.80, I had to purchase a bracelet and then I had the watch serviced, then the ding on the bezel started to really annoy me so I got a new one and had it fitted. After doing all this, I realised that I really preferred the 2254.50.

To be able to get a 2254, I would have had to sell the 2531 but when I looked into what I would get for it, it meant I would be taking a loss that I was not happy with. Along the way, I saw Fr John's converted 2254 with the non-AC dial and decided that's the way I would go if I ever got a 2254.

Late last year I started looking into the parts required to convert the 2531 and if it was a simple case of swapping parts over which it was. I ordered the parts from Cousins UK, as I had earned a 15% online discount with then due to previous purchases. Sadly, this reverted back to 2.5% midway through January this year.
The total cost for the parts and to have the work done was £343.10 which equates to about a 1/4 of the price of a five year old mint 2254 and I would still have bought a 2230.50.00 dial and had it fitted.

As it is now, I have the watch I want and still have the parts to convert back to a 2531. Also, if I want to wear a 2230.50.00, I only have to purchase and have fitted a WG bezel. Then there is always the option of having an "Electric Blue" by buying a bezel and dial.

Below is how I have the watch at present, on the Omega black rubber deployment strap OME-98000037:

Quite the hard-core Omega dude, Brian. I love that and the pics.

I went to the Omega store here in Seattle last Thursday and just fell for the Planet Ocean watch. It actually fit like it was made for me. I thought it felt better (or 'right') more so than my Rolex GMT IIc or Air King.
